Gossau SG (awp / ats) – An ammonia leak occurred overnight from Wednesday to Thursday at an operating site of the major distributor Migros in Gossau (SG). Around 70 people were evacuated. Ten employees were hospitalized for further checks.
The leak occurred shortly following 3:00 a.m. on a refrigeration installation for a reason still unknown, indicates the cantonal police of St. Gall. The emergency services were automatically alerted. Nearly 100 firefighters, chemical specialists, paramedics and police were mobilized.
The emergency services checked the health of dozens of people. A dozen of them had to be transported to the hospital to undergo additional checks.
