GoPro has just unveiled its Hero 10 Black Bones, an action cam intended primarily for FPV drone pilots with a featherweight 53 grams.
For years, users of fpv drone use particularly light cameras to pilot their drones with a virtual reality headset. However, even the bulkiest models of GoPro might sometimes prove too heavy or too bulky to best integrate with the drones race. What to give free rein to DJI, with its Action 2.
Nevertheless, GoPro finally reacted on Tuesday by announcing a new version of its latest camera, the GoPro Hero 10 Black Bones. As its name suggests, it is a action camera covering the main characteristics of the GoPro Hero 10 Black. It is thus equipped with a sensor capable of recording video sequences in 5.3K with a rate of 60 frames per second, in 4K 120p or 2.7K 240p. It also offers features dear to GoPro such as HyperSmooth 4.0 stabilization or the latest GP2 processor. However, where the GoPro Hero 10 Black Bones stands out is in its weight. The camera weighs 54 grams, compared to 153 grams for the classic GoPro Hero 10 Black. Enough to allow it to be easily embarked on light drones.

This featherweight is explained in particular by the absence of a battery integrated directly into the camera. For power, the GoPro Hero 10 Black Bones will draw directly from the battery of the drone on which it is mounted.
An action cam for do-it-yourselfers
As reported by the American site The Vergethis choice of format is in fact explained by the use that some drone pilots have of their GoPro: “GoPro has seen its customers already cut their GoPro in half to allow their flying filmmaking tools to stay in the air longer”. However, this practice might be dangerous and cause the camera to overheat. To avoid this, the GoPro Hero 10 Black Bones incorporates a ventilation system on the side which will allow the action camera and its sensor to be cooled more quickly.
The camera is not intended for all users, however. To take full advantage of it, it will be necessary in particular to solder the power supply to a drone battery. The GoPro Hero 10 Black Bones is thus compatible with batteries emitting a voltage of 5 to 27 volts. In addition, the action camera is currently only announced for the American market where it is offered at 499 dollars.
Contacted, GoPro told us that the manufacturer had, for the moment, no plans to market its GoPro Hero 10 Black Bones in France.
