Google will delete inactive accounts after two years: avoid losing access to Gmail and YouTube

Google announced a new policy that will delete inactive accounts after two years. This could result in the loss of access to key services such as Gmail, YouTube y Google Drive.

The policy states that if a personal account has not been used or logged in for a period of two years, it will be considered inactive and may therefore be deleted.

This deletion will include the loss of emails, photos in Google Photos, files in Google Drive, contacts, and any other data linked to the account.

The change could affect millions of users around the world who rely on Google services to manage files, emails, documents and personal memories in photos and videos.

However, Google clarified that not all accounts will be deleted. Those belonging to organizations, such as educational centers or companies, as well as those that have content on YouTube or applications in the Play Store, will be exempt from deletion.

To avoid removal, Google recommends:

  • Sign in to your Google account.
  • Read or send emails.
  • Upload, edit, or download files from Google Drive.
  • Access YouTube and watch videos.
  • Perform searches on Google.

The company will notify users several months in advance before proceeding with the deletion, giving them enough time to reactivate the account if necessary.

Accounts of organizations and content on YouTube will not be affected. (GOOGLE/GOOGLE)
