Google I/O 2024 showed how Android, the firm’s mobile operating system will integrate AI to, for example, help students solve mathematical operations (Circle to Search) or find specific information in a YouTube video using the Ask this video tool (Gemini).

For now, the Californian company is presenting the second beta version of Android 15, which is available for devices from Honor, Lenovo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Oppo, Pixel, among others.

The new function Theft Detection Lock, which will arrive later this year to prevent thieves from having access to information on your phone if you are ever robbed.

“This powerful feature uses Google AI to detect if someone snatches your phone from your hands and tries to run away,” the company explains.

If that fact occurs, the smartphone will be locked quickly so as not to compromise your information.

When you access the applications menu and scroll down, you will see this new feature, which will house those developments that you consider most sensitive. In order for it to be unlocked, you will have to authenticate yourself with your fingerprint.

“It’s like a digital safe inside your phone for apps you don’t want others to easily access or see,” complements the company.

Find My Device allows you to remotely lock or erase a stolen cell phone and now the user can mark it as lost to facilitate its tracking. The function of remote lock provides a lifeline if the user’s phone is no longer there.

“You will be able to lock your phone screen with just your phone number and a quick security challenge using any device,” he says Google.

This gives you time to retrieve your account details and access additional useful options in Find my deviceincluding sending a full factory reset command to completely wipe the device.

Remote Lock will be available for devices Android 10+ through an update of the services of Google Play later this year. Find My Device is available on devices Android 5+.

Of course Android 15 will bring many more features that go beyond security. In this sense, for example, you will be able to convert a ticket or membership physics in digital with a simple photo (saved in Google Wallet) or access AR content on Google Maps with the idea of ​​giving you more details about a certain place of interest, just to mention a couple more cases.
