Google: Why the US decided to condemn the company for a monopoly on online search

What does the decision say?

The judge said even the company was prepared to pay providers billions of dollars to assert its monopoly. A new market entrant would not be able to compete with it.

“Historic Victory”

US Attorney General Merrick Garland called the decision “a historic victory for the American people” and added: “No corporation – no matter how big or powerful – is above the law,” while a White House spokesman said the decision pro-competition is “a victory for the American people. Americans deserve an internet that is free, fair and open to competition.”

The lawsuit was filed in 2020

In his opening statement, government attorney Kenneth Dinger said the trial is about “the future of the internet.”

Federal authorities target Big Tech dominance

At the same time, the decision gave the green light for US federal authorities to prosecute the tech giants, an area that has come under fire from across the political spectrum.

Over the past four years, federal antitrust regulators have also sued META, Amazon and Apple, alleging they have illegally maintained monopolies.
