Google Wallet Now Lets You Store Your Passport for Domestic Flights
Your smartphone is becoming your everything, and Google continually expands its capabilities. Google Wallet is adding another important ability: storing your US passport digitally.
As of today, the feature is widely available, moving beyond testing to stabilize for everyone with Android 9+. After adding it to your Google Wallet app, you can use your digitized passport at TSA security checkpoints for domestic flights within the US. This convenient feature comes in handy if your state doesn’t offer its citizens a digital driver’s license or state ID.
How it Works: Three Easy Steps
Setting up your passport in Google Wallet is straightforward, resembling setting up other identification. You’ll find it available under the “ID” section within the app, unbroken along with your storage other IDs like driver’s license.
- The first step is choosing the “ID Pass” option. You can capture a picture of your passport’s main information page or manually enter the relevant information.

Next, locate the security chip found on the inside back cover of your passport.
To scan it effectively,

At Security Checkpoints
When you’r
e ready to use your digital passport, you can either scan the imprinted QR code or tap your device near the NFC Reader at security checkpoints. Simply approve any requests that pop up.
Keep in mind, your digital passport is meant as a supplement, not a replacement for your physical passport. Always carry your physical passport when traveling.
Google specifies that ID.
an “isn’t a government-issued ID.” It also currently only supports domestic usage within the US and not international travel. Lost your phone? No problem! You can easily remove the ID pass from your account by visiting myaccount.google.com.
