H2: Batttery Charging Limit for Extended Lifespan

While Google showcased enhancements to its Gemini AI and other enticing features in their latest December Pixel Drop, a hidden gem seems to have gone unnoticed.

Now, you can finally tell your Pixel when to stop charging, extending your battery’s overall lifespan.

The new option allows you to cap the battery charge at 80%. Laden with this feature, Pixel 8 & 9 series devices can also leverage a unique “bypass charging” functionality. This innovative feature lets your phone be powered directly from an external source – whether it’s a wall adapter or a decent power bank, directly drawing power in lieu of utilizing its own battery.

Choosing the battery charging limit inherent feature also automatically enables bypass charging.

Enabling the battery charge limit and bypass

To activate this battery management feature, head over to Settings>Battery. Within the Battery Settings, select “Use charging optimization” and choose “Limit to 80%”. This will simultaneously activate both the charge limit and bypass charging.

You’ll know it’s working when you see the battery charging until it hits the 80% mark. While plugged in, your phone will show as ‘not charging’. Bear in mind that the battery might charge up to 100% periodically before returning to 80%. Don’t fret, this is normal. It’s a calibration process for your battery to maintain accurate gauge readings.
