Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Google has just released a new AI-based feature in Google Photos. The waiting list to access the feature has also been open since last month.
Ask Photos is for making more complex requests to the photo library. The feature is available as a new tab in the Photos application replacing Search, quoted Wednesday (9/10/2024).
Searches can still be done within the Photos application. However, users must first submit a request to Ask Photos.
The page reports users will see how the feature works when opening it for the first time. Including what data is owned and what access is required.
The feature will also confirm a number of details. For example, using the correct name for people, managing relationships and the frequency of someone’s appearance in the library.
According to 9to5Google, Ask Photos performs well when answering requests related to people and places. The opposite is not so good for events and objects.
The 9to5Google page reported that the Ask Photos feature was launched just this month after the waiting list opened last September. Limited reports about the feature have been seen in the last few weeks, but recently it has become more extensive.
Only those who have entered the waiting list will get the Ask Photos feature. Google has not made it available to all its users.
Registration is still possible now. However, it is only limited to United States (US) users for now.

Google’s Ask Photos Feature: It’s About Time, Right?
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Well, well, well, look who finally decided to join the 21st century! Google has just unveiled a brand-new feature for Google Photos, aptly named Ask Photos. And before you ask, yes, you’re still going to need to join a waiting list that feels longer than a line for the latest iPhone release!
So, what does Ask Photos do? Oh, you know, just the usual—allowing users to make more complex requests from their photo libraries. Because let’s be real: typing “vacation” and getting every blurry pic of that one time you tried diving while holding a drink wasn’t cutting it anymore. The feature replaces the good ol’ Search tab in the Photos application. Because nothing says “innovation” like changing a button! 🎉
How’s It Different?
You can still perform searches in the app, but you’ve gotta submit a request to Ask Photos first. Think of it like booking a table in a fancy restaurant—only to find the chef is just your phone trying to figure out what you meant by “dog in a hat.” Yes, I’ve seen it too.
When you open the feature for the first time, it’ll give you a nice welcome, explaining what data it has access to and what it really means to “manage relationships” as if replying to a Tinder match. It even promises to remember names and how often that certain someone graces your digital collection. Because if Google can remember my ex from five years ago, surely it can handle my cat’s frequent noodle-faced appearances…
What’s the Catch?
Ah, the age-old question! According to 9to5Google, while Ask Photos shines when it comes to figuring out people and places, it’s about as reliable as your mate when asked, “What did we do last weekend?” when it comes to objects and events. So, don’t count on it to help you find the photos from your wild birthday bash while you were wearing those silly party hats. That’s your problem now, buddy!
And here’s the juicy part: this feature is currently rolling out only to those who managed to snag a spot on the waiting list—exclusive, right? It’s like being invited to a surprise party that you planned yourself. For now, registration is still open but only for our friends in the United States. Sorry, international users—you’ll have to sit this one out with your overpriced avocado toast!
Final Thoughts
So, should you bother with Google’s latest offering? Honestly, if you’ve got a massive trove of photos and a healthy dose of patience, Ask Photos might just be what you need to declutter that ever-growing digital library of yours. But remember, it’s no magic wand—it’s more akin to that one friend who insists they know the way but still needs to check Google Maps every five minutes!
In conclusion, it’s about time Google stepped up its game in the photo organization department. Now, if only they could work on finding my lost socks instead, I’d really be impressed!
