Goodbye to Free Football: to watch the local league, Euro Cup and Copa America you have to pay a lot of money | Freedom only if you can pay

One of the most visited websites by football fans is undoubtedly “Fútbol Libre”, a site that pirates live broadcasts of matches to watch them without paying. But on Wednesday night, those who wanted to log in to watch Uruguay vs Colombia were unable to, as the courts shut down more than 50 sites that broadcast these sports content for free. Given this situation, how much do you have to pay to watch local football, the Euro Cup and the Copa América?

An extensive investigation concluded on Wednesday night with an operation in a house in the Godoy Cruz Department, Mendoza, in which more than fifty pages that offered sporting events without the rights were suspended.

Following the complaint filed by the Alliance Against Audiovisual Piracy (Alianza), the Cybercrime prosecutor at the Specialized Fiscal Unit for the Investigation of Cybercrimes (UFEIC), Alejandro Musso, officers from the Federal Police and the City of Buenos Aires arrested a man under the pseudonym “Khasad”, accused of alleged violation of intellectual property rights and linked to various websites where pirated sports content was transmitted, through links such as “Fútbol Libre”.

How to watch Argentina in the Copa América and the Euro Cup

Unlike what happens with the 2024 Professional Football League matches, which are broadcast exclusively by ESPN Premium and TNT Sports, it is not necessary to purchase the “Football Pack” to watch the Argentina National Team’s matches in the Copa América and the Eurocup.

In the case of the team led by Lionel Scaloni and captained by Lionel Messi, the matches are televised by Public TV and Telefé for free. In addition, it is broadcast by the channels TyC Sports and DSports. However, for the remaining matches, only DSports has the exclusivity of the television rights. Some were given to Flow (Cablevisión) while TyC Sports gave a handful of matches from the first phase. According to the official website, the DSport service costs 12,500 pesos, in its most economical version.

On the other hand, to watch the Euro Cup (through the ESPN channel) it is necessary to have at least the basic subscription of an internet/television provider or streaming platform.

  • Personal Flow: $8.000
  • DirecTV: $15.800
  • Telecenter: $12,503
  • Disney+ Standard: $7,399

However, not all matches are broadcast on ESPN via cable. In some cases, it is necessary to watch them on the Disney+ platform and, there, have a premium subscription. This costs more than ten thousand pesos per month.
