Goodbye to Caracol: Important Sports Journalists Nelson Ascencio and Sarah Castro Depart

An important sports journalist said goodbye to Caracol following 25 years with the channel. With a heartfelt message, he broke the news to his followers and thanked those who accompanied him for so many years.

On the followingnoon of July 27, 2023, Nelson Enrique Ascencio, one of the channel’s most important sports journalists, officially confirmed his departure from the channel. With an extensive message of thanks, Ascencio broke the news and made it clear that, for now, he will not join another journalistic house.

“After 25 years of experience and a successful professional career, I say goodbye to Canal Caracol. Thanks to the directives, colleagues, producers, cameramen, assistants and other personnel of this excellent journalistic house. Now I am a free agent”, Nelson Enrique Ascencio

Caracol Radio was also left without an important sports journalist.

For several years, Sarah Castro was in different Caracol Radio programs such as ‘Carrusel Deportivo’ or ‘Vbar Caracol’, she announced the retirement of both Caracol and AS Colombia, the medium in which she was the director.

He dedicated emotional words of thanks and farewell to both media outlets:

For AS Colombia: “I appreciate the opportunity to have been part of the history of these two media. A huge honor. I led AS for 8 years. A project that carried my essence in every detail. We not only managed to be audience leaders, but we trained many journalists who are also our pride. Many of them grew before my eyes. It is always difficult to leave the house, the affections, but I leave with the conviction that we did a great job”.

For Caracol Radio: “From Caracol Radio, I take with me the passion, professionalism and talent, not only in the Sports team. Many people believed and contributed day by day to my work. It was a dream to have led the Qatar World Cup operation. Thank you always”.
