Good news: the TEC subscription at €1 per month for 18-24 year olds from September 1

The TEC subscription will cost only one euro per month for young people aged 18 to 24 from September 1, a date advanced by one year compared to what had been initially planned, confirms this Thursday the cabinet of the Walloon Minister for Mobility, Philippe Henry (Ecolo).

As a reminder, the Walloon government had already given its agreement, on December 9, for the public benefiting from the increased intervention (BIM) and the over 65s to benefit from this almost free CET from September 2022. But for young people, who had already obtained a 70% reduction, the measure was not expected before September 2023.

“A new acceleration of the progressive free public transport”

This Thursday, the regional government finally decided to bring this date forward to September 1, allowing 18-24 year olds to have access to a subscription at 12 euros per year covering the entire network, including Express lines. “This is a new acceleration of the progressive free public transport, planned for the three target audiences in the Regional Policy Declaration. This helps to make buses and trams more attractive, all the more so in this period of energy crisis and exorbitant fuel costs”comments Minister Henry.

Virtually free granted to Ukrainian refugees

At the same time, the Walloon government has also decided to anticipate the quasi-free payment which will be granted in September 2022 to Ukrainian refugees who benefit from BIM status. In this context, he gave the green light to a specific subscription available at the price of 5 euros at the TEC counters.

This “Tempo-Pass” will be valid until September 30, 2022 on presentation of the temporary protection certificate from which these refugees benefit. After this date, Ukrainian refugees with BIM status will be able to benefit from the subscription at 12 euros per year.
