Good news for Ukraine regarding ammunition from the European Commissioner

In order to achieve the goal, the official called on the EU countries to reduce the export of weapons to other countries and to put pressure on the military industry to increase the production of ammunition within the country.

In March last year, Brussels said it would provide Kyiv with one million shells a year, but later said that target appeared doubtful.

T. Breton also said that the EU could catch up with Russia in terms of weapons production in two years. According to him, it is very important that the EU has the same potential.

Earlier, Brussels promised Ukraine a four-year 50 billion loan. euro aid package, but Budapest is blocking this decision for now. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that Ukraine should not receive such large sums from the EU budget, as it is not a member of the bloc.

Brussels is preparing an alternative aid package for Ukraine, if on February 1 the summit would fail to approve a four-year program of support for Kyiv.

According to Financial Times sources, officials are considering stripping Budapest of its voting rights to negotiate a new aid package for Kyiv. Such a procedure can be carried out according to one of the articles of the EU treaty, according to which a country can be deprived of its voting rights due to a violation of European legislation. At the same time, such a decision can be blocked by another EU member state.
