Good news for Dries Mertens: the former Red Devil extends for one season at Galatasaray

Dries Mertens has extended his contract with Galatasaray for one season, the Turkish club announced in a statement on Wednesday evening. Mertens will receive an annual salary of 2,900,000 euros.

Mertens, 37, has been wearing the Galatasaray jersey since 2022 following nine seasons with Napoli. In his first two seasons with the ‘Gala’, the former Red Devil made 84 appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing 23 assists. He also won two Turkish league titles and a Turkish Super Cup.

The winger also wore the jersey of Utrecht (2009-2011) and PSV Eindhoven (2011-2013) before joining Naples where he played 397 matches for 148 goals, becoming the top scorer in the history of the club.

Next season, Mertens will not be the only Belgian to play for the ‘Cimbom’. Michy Batshuayi has indeed signed with Galatasaray from the eternal rivals Fenerbahce where his contract was not extended.
