Good fuel prices are a shield against accuracy

The case of simple unleaded gasoline is typical. Comparing September 2023 with this year, there is an average price reduction of 13%. In particular, the average price in September 2023 for 95-octane unleaded gasoline was 2.02 euros per liter, compared to 1.79 euros this year.

Heating oil

The recent example of heating oil is typical. Its availability began last Tuesday (15/10) with the average pan-Hellenic term being, at that time, at 1,192 euros per liter, according to the Liquid Fuel Price Observatory of the Ministry of Development. In Attica the average price was 1.16 euros per liter and 1.18 euros per liter in Thessaloniki.

Last year, the distribution of heating oil had started on 13.10.2023, from much higher levels. The average price was 1.36 euros/liter in Attica, 1.38 euros per liter in Thessaloniki, while 1.39 euros/liter was the average nationwide.

It is noted that at the end of the season, on April 30, 2024, when the distribution of heating oil was completed, its average price was 1.31 euros in Attica, 1.31 euros per liter in Thessaloniki, and 1.33 euros was the pan-Hellenic average .

Petrol

As for unleaded gasoline, this year, on October 15, its price was 1.79 euros per liter (Attica 1.76 euros per liter and Thessaloniki 1.75 euros per liter), while on October 15, 2023 it was 1, 89 euros per liter (Attica and Thessaloniki 1.85 euros per liter).

With these data, for a 1,100 cubic meter car, which “fills up” with 50 liters of gasoline, the average cost in Attica is 88 euros and in Thessaloniki 87.50 euros. In the islands of the Cyclades the cost rises to 101.25 euros and in the Dodecanese to 97.2 euros.

Last year (15.10.2023) the same car sold for 92.5 euros in Athens and Thessaloniki, 110.05 euros in the Cyclades and 103.2 euros in the Dodecanese.

It is noted that the average nationwide price for simple unleaded is 1.79 euros per liter, for diesel at 1.553 euros per liter, for LPG at 0.913 euros per liter and for heating oil at 1.20 euros per liter liter, according to the latest data available from the Liquid Fuel Price Observatory of the Ministry of Development (16/10).

International ranking

Greece is in 13th place on the list of countries with the most expensive gasoline worldwide. Its price was 1.786 euros per liter, according to the international platform Global Petrol Prices (last data available 14/10).

The most expensive gasoline is sold in Hong Kong (3,042 euros per liter). Followed by Monaco (2,130 euros), Iceland (2,060 euros), Denmark (1,964 euros), Singapore (1,932 euros), Barbados (1,919 euros), the Netherlands (1,886 euros), Switzerland (1,874 euros), Liechtenstein (€1,853), Finland (€1,843), Israel (€1,808) and Albania (€1,799).

Estimates for further decline

Considering the price of Brent, which is in… freefall (tracking below 75 dollars per barrel), the good prices seen in fuel this year are expected to continue, barring the unexpected. In the next few days, in fact, the prices of petrol, diesel and heating oil are expected to move to lower levels than today, as reported in “ET”. market analysts.
