Extension of the joint cooperation agreement until 2029
With the extension of the cooperation agreement until 2029, the next stage of the “One Square Kilometer of Education” program was heralded in the Potsdam district of Schlaatz at the beginning of this week. Together with the Weidenhof primary school, the state school authority, ProPotsdam and the Soziale Stadt ProPotsdam gGmbH, the “One Square Kilometer of Education” foundation and the Regional Offices for Education, Integration and Democracy, Brandenburg (RAA), the program was launched two years ago Brought away. Its aim is to sustainably improve the educational opportunities for children and young people in the district by building a local educational network.
For Alexandra Mebus-Haarhoff, head of the department for children, youth and families, a strong educational cooperation is being created here that will sustainably benefit the children and young people in Schlaatz. “Through close cooperation between educational institutions and local social partners, we want to promote individual educational opportunities and open up new paths for equal opportunities for young people to grow up.”
The heart of the program is the educational workshop, the premises of which are provided by ProPotsdam GmbH. Under the direction of Angela Fleischer, the workshop supports specialists from the Schlaatz facilities in the development and implementation of offers. Important topics include social learning, a good transition from daycare to primary school, promoting reading and working with parents as well as promoting multilingualism: “Reinforcing successful things, new ideas, binding, appreciative cooperation and developing milestones together – if we succeed – we can achieve a lot in Schlaatz,” says Angela Fleischer.
In the past two years, many measures have been initiated: from a transition portfolio for daycare to primary school, the use of a reading kit, through to further training and prevention programs. These are implemented and developed jointly by many institutions in the social area: the Weidenhof primary school, four daycare centers, the learning and education sponsors of Diakonie and AWO, the media workshop Potsdam, the school social work of the Weidenhof primary school and the comprehensive school at Schilfhof, the community center, the Friedrich Reinsch House and the children’s club “Our House”.
With the extension of the cooperation agreement that has now taken place, the partners will intensify and further expand their collaboration. What other common challenges and topics do educational institutions have? How can educational cooperation in the district be expanded? These questions are the focus of the educational conference in Schlaatz planned for the beginning of 2025. The promotion of educational partnerships with parents, social skills development, language support, transitions between educational institutions and the expansion of formal and informal learning opportunities in the district will continue to be central topics in the future.
The “One Square Kilometer of Education” program supports the development of educational networks nationwide and promotes local communities of responsibility for good education. In the state capital Potsdam, the Schlaatz program is supported with a staff position for the pedagogical workshop in the children, youth and family department.
