González Urrutia’s allies demand the publication of the electoral records before the TSJ

Caracas, Aug 7 (EFE).- The governor of Zulia state, opposition leader Manuel Rosales, and the secretary general of the opposition Movement for Venezuela (MPV), Simon Calzadilla, demanded this Wednesday before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that the National Electoral Council (CNE) publish the voting records of the presidential elections of July 28.

“We are taking advantage of this hearing or this summons to demand, on behalf of all the people of Venezuela, that the National Electoral Council (…) publish the final minutes of the electoral process of July 28,” said Rosales, after attending an interrogation at the TSJ, which is carrying out a process to “certify” the result of the vote, by which Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed the winner.

The governor insisted that Venezuelans demand respect for the vote and the electoral result, which, according to the largest anti-Chavez coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), is the victory of its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia.

“The CNE has the authority and must publish the final minutes of the electoral process of July 28,” he reiterated.

Regarding González Urrutia’s absence from the TSJ, Rosales argued that the former ambassador used “the letter route” to address the court.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Movement for Venezuela (MPV), Simón Calzadilla, said that the electoral body must give all political parties and candidates the results broken down by table, as has always been done, something that up to now, he said, has not happened.

“The CNE has been closed since Sunday, there is no way to submit a document, not even a communication to the secretariat, those are the facts,” he added.

Calzadilla said he did not understand what President Nicolás Maduro’s request was to the TSJ, because, he explained, any candidate can challenge the totalization of the results once they have been published by the CNE, but not before.

“The parties have nothing to compare the copies of the minutes with (…) we are completely defenseless, we do not know the results, and we do not even know what we are doing in this (Electoral) Chamber,” he added.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court summoned the 10 former presidential candidates, as well as the political parties, for different dates to advance the process of “certifying” the official result of the elections, which gave victory to Maduro, which has been questioned inside and outside the country.

González Urrutia on Wednesday refused to go to the TSJ, considering that the procedure does not correspond to any process contemplated in Venezuelan legislation and constitutes a “violation of due process.”

The president of the TSJ, the Chavista Caryslia Rodríguez, indicated, in a broadcast on the state channel VTV, that González Urrutia did not “comply” with the “due summons,” where – she said – he was supposed to submit the required documents.

The president of the CNE, the Chavista Elvis Amoroso, delivered the minutes of the presidential election scrutiny to the TSJ on Monday, without having published them yet, as well as the minutes of the award and proclamation of Maduro as re-elected president, according to information from VTV.
