González Urrutia assures that “the truth will prevail” in the midst of the crisis

The presidential candidate of Venezuela’s majority opposition, Edmundo González Urrutia, said that “the truth will prevail” amid the post-electoral crisis that the country is going through, following the elections of July 28.

“Let us always live in the truth, respecting it is the path to peace that will allow us to rebuild our beloved country. The truth will prevail, never doubt it,” the diplomat wrote in the caption of a photograph, shared on Instagram, in which he is seen kneeling in a Catholic temple.

“I pray to God for Venezuela, for our people and for an end to violence,” added González Urrutia, who claims to have won the elections by a margin of 37% over Maduro, contrary to what was announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE).

González Urrutia made this comment a day after having directly asked Maduro “to stop the violence and persecution and immediately release all compatriots arbitrarily detained,” in reference to the more than 2,400 arrests that have taken place in the context of the post-election protests.

“Enough of persecution and violence, enough of trying to spread terror, enough of disrespecting the will of Venezuelans for change. Accept what our people have expressed and let us all begin to get our country out of this crisis,” said the former ambassador.
