Caracas, Aug 21 (EFE).- The leaders of the majority opposition in Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado, thanked the King of Spain, Felipe VI, on Wednesday for his “clear institutional and personal support” for the “fight for democracy and freedom” from the Caribbean country.
In a letter published in X, they expressed their “deepest and most emotional gratitude” after the Government of Spain, together with those of 21 other countries and the European Union (EU), signed a declaration calling for the “immediate publication of all the original minutes” of the presidential elections of July 28 in Venezuela and the “impartial” and “independent” verification of the results.
“The joint declaration, signed on August 16 in Santo Domingo de Guzmán, with the clear institutional and personal support of His Majesty, reaffirms our hopes that Venezuela will finally be free,” González Urrutia and Machado say in the text, where they also denounce an increase in “repression” in the South American nation after the elections.
