Gone is the free Microsoft Teams app for business

On April 12, Microsoft will discontinue its free Teams app for businesses, namely Team Free (classic version). Users who migrate to a paid account will be able to port their chat messages, files and other data there. But whoever does not migrate, risks losing their data.

Microsoft propose two paid options for the migration of Teams Free (classic version). Users can upgrade to Teams Essentials for $3.40 per month. Among other things, they will have 10 gigabytes of storage capacity in the cloud and can add up to three hundred participants to a meeting.

An alternative is to migrate to Microsoft 365 Business Basic for 5.10 euros per user per month. This plan includes access to all the options that Essential users also enjoy, plus a terabyte of cloud storage capacity, the ability to record meetings and access to both web and mobile apps.

Free option without data migration

The user who does not wish to pay, can migrate from Microsoft Teams Free (classic version) to Teams (free). He can in this case and until April 12, 2023 store and consult his files via his current account. However, he must take into account that the data will not be transferred automatically to the new account he will have to create, if he still wishes to use the service following April 12.

The new free variant allows meetings to be held for up to 60 minutes and with no more than 100 participants. This formula also includes 5 GB of storage capacity in the cloud.
