The Goncourt 2018, “Their children following them” (Actes Sud), by the writer Nicolas Mathieu, will soon be adapted to the cinema by the Boukherma brothers. The novel Their Children following them”, inspired by the history of Hayange (Moselle) and the Fensch valley, depicts an era and tells, with accuracy, the discovery of sexuality, the joys and setbacks of adolescence. For this film adaptation, Nicolas Mathieu sold the rights to his book.

“I trust the project leaders. I don’t take part in the production and writing of the film, even if we talk regarding it. In general, my involvement is more in the choice of who can adapt the book, from the production company to the director. Cinema is a bit of a trap for a writer, the story of my life is to write books”insists the winner of the Goncourt 2018.

With three novels to his credit, war on animals (2014), Their children following them (2018) et Connemara (2022), the most “bankable” of authors from Lorraine is regularly courted by the 7th Art. “What I write is very visual, my novels are inspired by cinema and series. The adaptations of my books, which I generally find very successful, also attract another audience.
