Thousands of young people traveled to Goms on special trains from all over Switzerland. Around 30,000 scouts will populate the valley by August 6th. Over 5000 volunteers are on duty. The official starting signal was celebrated on Sunday with a grand opening ceremony. After 14 years, the national camp of the Swiss Scout Movement, also known as Bula, is taking place in Valais this time. Under the motto “mova” everything revolves around movement.

The scouts pitch their tents between Geschinen and Obergesteln. The campsite is 120 hectares. That’s 170 soccer fields. 700 toilets and 130 showers will be installed at the camp site. The water is primarily sourced from Ulrichen. The water supply for the residents has the highest priority. If the water runs out, the showers on the camp site are turned off first.

“Children are only allowed to shower once a week”

To prevent this from happening, there are shower rules: “Leaders are allowed to shower once a day. Children are only allowed once a week for three minutes, »explains Nemo (20) from Seepfadi. The scouts have to do without fire altogether. Due to the very high risk of forest fires, a fire ban applies. “Fortunately, we organized gas cookers in advance,” says Nemo.

For scouts who had only prepared for fire, the changeover was more difficult. “We still had to organize gas cookers at relatively short notice,” says Hannibal (23) from the St. Martin Sursee scouts. Even if it’s a pity that you can’t make a fire, you’re looking forward to the next few days.
