After a series of disputes between Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodzic and Moroccan player Hakim Ziyech, the former was sacked from training the Atlas Lions despite his success in qualifying Morocco to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Disagreements between the coach and the player, which resulted in Ziyash’s retirement from international football, before reversing his decision following the Bosnian’s dismissal.
Disagreements arose mainly following Halilhodzic’s accusations of evading matches, not dealing professionally in training, and attacking him more than once in the media.
The Moroccan Football Federation has repeatedly tried to clear the atmosphere between the two, but Ziyech’s insistence not to join Morocco as long as Halilhodzic continues as a coach, prompted the university to sacrifice the Bosnian, and appoint national coach Walid Regraki instead.
