Graphics from another time
You don’t have to be a gaming expert to figure out that Gollum game graphics have a serious problem. We are almost on a PS3/Xbox 360 level. Random shades, little detailed texture and pale light are there, we are far from the drawings of Tolkien from which the developers said to be inspired. The character of Sméagol is nevertheless successful, both visually and in terms of animations, but that does not make us forget the other characters, who did not benefit from the same care (Sefut and the Orcs). To fix all this, there is no secret: the sacrosanct texture patch or updates that intensify the visual effects. For more information, the new episode of the 5 things to know is available just above.
Dated mechanics
As well as being pleasing to the eye, Gollum’s character control is niquel, fluid as is by permit. But the satisfying side of the movements is not at all helped by the progression of the game. The title of Daedalic was to offer us a semi-open game which ultimately ends up being a more closed game, a large corridor where Sméagol’s abilities are find almost uninteresting. The balance between open area and closed area is almost non-existent, however it is now possible to create a good balance between open world and corridor (Jedi Survivor recently for example). On top of that, despite its few dynamic phases, this action-adventure game is very poorly paced, it is mostly slow with little adrenaline. The title would benefit from reducing these cutscenes to take the rhythm. For more details, the new episode of the 5 things to know is available at the beginning of the article.
Poorly optimized choice system
We are well aware that Daedalic tried to make a very narrative game to involve us emotionally. To do this, the developers have nested a choice system that plays with the duality of Sméagol. At different moments of the game, we will be faced with dilemmas with a positive perspective and a negative perspective. This adds psychology to all the characters in the game and gives tremendous interest to the multiple dialogues. Only here, this system of choices simply has no consequence, in any way whatsoever on the scenario! This lack of impact might have been corrected by modifying the physical characteristics of Gollum according to the perspectives chosen, for example. Checks to review
We spoke to you earlier regarding the fluidity of the character’s movements, this should have been paired with ergonomic controls, but this is not the case. We have to do with a rigid gameplay where distances are difficult to gauge. Which is very annoying when most of the game’s moments are climbing and climbing phases. Everything is random, once Gollum hangs on, another time he doesn’t. It feels like we’ve gone back to the days of Castlevania 64 where every jump was an ordeal and forced us to die each time to hope to succeed in the next resurrection. Daedalic’s title then turns into a huge die and retry. In short, to optimize urgently. To find out more, the new episode of the 5 things to know is available at the top of the article.
Too many bugs kill the bug
Of course, a game like this suffers from its slew of bugs, to tell you the truth, we didn’t expect to have so many. Distorted Mass Effect Andromeda style face, script not showing, character stuck in front of a door he is supposed to open. Many players have been forced to restart chapters, see the entire game, because of these bugs. You understood, this action-adventure game needs a good feather duster and maybe over time, with patches and updates, it will go up the slope like a certain No Man Sky.
