It was announced on the 17th that Masanori Mochida (68), president of Goldman Sachs Securities, the Japanese subsidiary of the US Goldman Sachs Group, will be retiring. A person familiar with the matter made the statement on condition of anonymity.
Public relations officer Hiroko Matsumoto declined to comment on Mochida’s resignation. According to him, Mochida joined the company in 1985 and became president in 2001. He has been the face of the company and has been in charge of its management for over 20 years. Since 2002, he has been the only Japanese person to serve on Goldman’s management committee.

President Mochida’s resignation was first reported on the same day by the British newspaper Financial Times (FT). According to the FT, Mochida will step down immediately.
According to the paper, Mochida was scheduled to retire in 2024. His early departure reflects his concerns that Goldman needs new leadership as it faces competition from rivals for his deals, the FT said.
