The direct GoldenPass Express rail link between Montreux (VD) and Interlaken (BE) will resume service. The panoramic train will run once more unchanged in Zweisimmen (BE) between the two stations from Sunday, according to the companies MOB and BLS.
Three other direct connections will be added gradually by the end of July, the time to make the final adjustments. This continuous line had been interrupted on February 26 due to wear on certain switches caused by the variable gauge bogie.
This technical incident occurred more than three months following the inauguration with great fanfare of this direct connection of the GoldenPass Express, very popular with tourists.

Turnout issue resolved
“Reducing the gap between the wheels (timing dimension) by a few millimeters has improved the interaction with certain needles of the BLS, thus remedying the problem,” explain MOB and BLIS in a press release.
The variable gauge bogie system, developed by the two companies as well as the Alstom company, allows the train to change from the narrow gauge between Montreux and Zweisimmen (BE) to the standard gauge between Zweisimmen and Interlaken-West. It was on this second section, in the Bernese Oberland, that the damage was observed.
Travelers might continue to use the line, but had to change trains at Zweisimmen, as before. From Sunday, the first GoldenPass Express will run once a day from Montreux to Interlaken and back (09:35 from Montreux / 14:08 from Interlaken Ost).
