Kunnamkulam > This medal of Gopika Gopi is a golden pearl for mother. Gopika was teary-eyed after winning the Junior Girls’ 3000m. Sumathi’s mother died in July last year. That pain hasn’t gone away. Gopika dedicated this feat on the track to her mother, who dreamed of a medal for her daughter. Gopika, who competed for Kannur GVHSS in the 3000, completed the distance in 11 minutes:01.81 seconds. Kozhikode Poovambai AMHS’s Ashwini R Nair (11:07.33) was second and Kothamangalam Mar Basil HSS’s Alona Thomas (11:07.98) was third. The coach is M Santosh of Kannur Sports School.
