Golden Globes 2024: Barbie, Oppenheimer and Succession lead nominations

2023-12-11 18:15:00

The American film and television awards season is already underway following more than a hundred days of actors and screenwriters’ strike in Hollywood. This Monday morning, it was the Golden Globes’ turn to announce its nominees for various categories, with Barbie and Oppenheimer in the lead, with nine and eight nominations each, among those chosen for cinema; in addition to Succession, in the field of series, breaking the record with nine nominations, The Last of Us and The Crown.

The award went through a crisis in 2021 following reports of a lack of representation among voters, which ended up resulting in the sale of the award rights to producers Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge. Now, with a new committee of 300 journalists from around the world choosing the works, the highlights also include films that were successful at festivals, such as Past Lives, Anatomia de uma Queda and Zona de Interesse. Among the series, The Bear, Abbott Elementary and Ted Lasso were also included in the main categories.

In addition to the traditional categories, there are also two new ones — including one for best film with big box office sales (including the concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour) and for stand-up comedy, with nominations for Rick Gervais and Chris Rock.

Winners will be announced on January 7th.
