Global gold prices

Gold prices fell by regarding 1% yesterday, reaching $1833 an ounce, under pressure from US data, which showed the strength of the labor market, which reinforces expectations of higher interest rates for a longer period.

Prices fell to levels of $1,824 an ounce, before paring their losses following the US Federal Reserve’s statements regarding easing inflation in 2023.

US labor data showed Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell to a three-month low last week, while layoffs fell 43% in December.

The US economic outlook presented by Federal Reserve staff at a meeting last month indicated that the battle for lower rates may continue longer than expected.

The strong dollar contributed to more pressure on gold prices following the dollar index rose to its highest level in 3 weeks by the end of yesterday’s session, amid anticipation of the non-farm private sector jobs data issued by the US Labor Department on Friday.
