Gold prices rose globally, led by lower US Treasury yields, as cautious investors awaited the US non-farm payrolls report due this week for further indications on the US Federal Reserve’s stance on a rate hike.

US 10-year Treasury yields have fallen from their highest levels in more than a week, reducing the opportunity cost of non-yielding yellow metal holders.

“Most of the investors are on the sidelines because of the tension between the US and China, so people aren’t sure what’s going to happen,” said Brian Lane, managing director at Gold Silver Central.

Gold prices extended gains on Friday and were set to end the week on a higher note amid growing concerns over slowing global growth, while dollar losses ahead of US non-farm payrolls data also helped metals.

Prices of most industrial metals rose as the dollar’s losses relieved some of the pressure on those metals. But it is highly poised to end the week on a lower note following a slew of weak manufacturing data was released.

As of 2106 EST (0110 GMT), spot gold was up slightly at 1792 an ounce to approach a month’s peak, following rising 1.6 percent in the previous session, and gold futures were up 0.1 percent at $1,808.30.
