Cancer is a serious disease that threatens the health of people around the world, including Thai people. The Thai government through the National Health Security Office (NHSO) has joined the campaign for Thai people to take care of their health by increasing the chances of treating cancer patients in the early stages to receive treatment as soon as possible in order to be cured.
Under the National Health Security Fund system (Gold Card) by providing benefits to care for those eligible to access cancer screening services 4 items as follows
Cervical cancer screening
- by Pap Smear method or vinaigrette ablation (VIA) or HPV DNA Test
Rules and conditions for receiving the service
- Eligible for screening service 1 time every 5 years
- All Grade 5 girls students nationwide receive HPV vaccination benefits.
- All rights of Thai women aged 30-59 years and Thai women aged 15-29 who have had sex since a young age.
Colon and rectal cancer screening
- with the method of detecting latent blood in the stool (Fit Test)
Rules and conditions for receiving the service
- People aged 50–70 years
- Eligible for screening service 1 time every 2 years. Abnormal results will be confirmed by endoscopy and biopsy.
Screening for cancer-risk lesions and oral cancer

- For people aged 40 years and over, once a year
Screening for BRCA1/BRCA2 breast cancer gene mutations

In addition, the NHSO has implemented a policy “Cancer anywhere, get services that are ready” (Cancer anywhere), one of the services in the policy to raise the level of the gold card that was started on January 1, 2021, giving cancer patients access to faster treatment. Results during the 2-year period from January 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022, there were patients who received cancer services wherever they were ready.
Criteria and conditions for receiving the service
- Benefits of a 30-baht gold card that can receive services without any cost, with people able to access the service at a service unit that has the potential for cancer treatment.
- Handing over a smart card Show yourself to use the gold card privileges before receiving the service every time. In the event that abnormalities are found, they can receive treatment according to their benefits.
According to the National Cancer Institute, Department of Medicine, each year, there are 381 new cancer cases in Thailand each year, or 139,206 people per year, and 230 people die from cancer per day, or 84,073 people per year.

In the past, the NHSO has organized benefits related to cancer services under the National Health Security Fund or “30 baht gold card” continuously. It covers preventive services, treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormones, both according to 20 treatment protocols (Protocol) and general cancer treatment. In particular, access to expensive cancer drugs is a barrier to access to treatment.
