Gold mine: Konkera SA renounces its operating permit

Konkera SA has decided to give up its operating permit. The announcement was made in the Council of Ministers on March 16, 2023. The said permit covered an area of ​​64.34 km² in the municipality of Batié, Noumbiel province, South-West region. The parent company of Konkera SA, Centamin, has decided to do so, following 6 years of exemption from the start of construction work on the mine and following various formal notices from the government.

According to the application file for signing the mining agreement between Konkera SA and the State of Burkina, in its article 17, this waiver does not generate any penalty or compensation, under the conditions defined by the mining regulations.

In this agreement, “the acceptance of the administration takes place only following payment by the investor, of all sums due and at the end of the perfect execution, for the abandoned area, of the work prescribed by the regulations. in force with respect to the preservation of the environment and the rehabilitation of sites”
