GOJIRA – FORTITUDE TOUR
The return to Chile of one of the most decisive bands on the metal scene in recent years in the entire world is confirmed: Gojira, with the promotion tour of their acclaimed latest album “Fortitude” in 2021 and the reputation of being one of the fundamental names of his style today.
It will be his first concert on national soil, following his debut in 2015 as part of the Santiago Gets Louder festival, in its first edition. Seven years have passed since that historic first encounter and since then the quartet has released two new productions, “Magma” in 2016 and the aforementioned “Fortitude”.
It is this latest work that marks the present of the French group made up of Joe Duplantier (vocals, guitar), Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass), who since their formation in 1996 have maintained an unstoppable upward curve. In “Fortitude”, their seventh studio production, they have captured one of the highest moments of their career, with a sound, an energy, a purpose and a message that in general shows them more cohesive and luminous than in “Magma” . The progressive orientation of always is there, once once more crossing its own limits and showing that in its fields, the metal is far from any stagnation or lack of new ideas. To this they added a significant work on the lyrics, with concepts on personal reflections and contingent environmental, social and political matters.
The result is a shock to the senses that was reflected in a successful climb to the top of charts such as the Billboard 200, Billboard Hard Rock Albums, Top Rock Albums, UK Rock & Metal Albums and others in North America and Europe. At the same time, the critics positioned it as one of the most important metal releases of the entire season. Specialized publications such as Metal Hammer and Revolver named it the best album of 2021 and Rolling Stone ranked it number 3 on its list of the 10 Best Metal Records of the year. And their single “Amazonia” was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the most recent Grammy Awards.
All this has made Gojira, who were already one of the main bands of modern metal, have further expanded their audience. And claimed the throne of being the band that connects the metal scene with the largest and most cross-sectional audiences. In that sense, what was once Metallica, or Sepultura, or Mastodon, today Gojira is, bringing new people closer to a style that is always on the move.
