Going up and down the stairs for the elderly – Hossam Mowafi: It is forbidden for these reasons

Dr. Hossam Mowafi, Professor of Critical Cases at Kasr Al-Ainy College of Medicine, explained that climbing and descending stairs cannot be considered exercise, stressing that they have negative effects on the health of the body.

Mowafi said, during his hosting of the “Bab Al-Khalq” program, presented by the journalist Mahmoud Saad, that the damages of descending and ascending the ladder become more dangerous for some groups.

The professor of critical care medicine added that going down the stairs puts great pressure on the joints of the elderly, especially if they have roughness, indicating that it destroys the knee.

And he stressed that climbing the stairs becomes dangerous for the health of the heart, especially if the owner is 50 years old or suffers from a problem with it, calling for the need to use the electric elevator in this case as well.
