Godzilla and King Kong hit the American box office

Godzilla and King Kong have teamed up to climb the American box office: Adam Wingard’s blockbuster “Godzilla and Kong – The New Empire”, released worldwide at the end of March, is dominating the Stars and Stripes box office, where it surpassed in regarding ten days of programming the ceiling of 135 million dollars.

“Godzilla and Kong – The New Empire” is the fifth chapter of the MonsterVerse, a saga that began in 2014 with “Godzilla”, which slowly became a crossover between the stories of two of the most representative monsters in the history of cinema.

King Kong was born on the big screen in 1933 in a masterpiece directed by Meriam C. Cooper and Ernest B. Shoedsack, a splendid adventure feature film in which the gigantic gorilla soon became a metaphor for capitalism and the American desire to always create entertainment, at any cost Since that moment, Kong has returned to the big screen twelve more times, with decidedly mixed results, but we can mention the 1976 film of the same name by John Guillermin and the 2005 one by Peter Jackson.

Godzilla instead arrives at the cinema under an even more political star: in 1954 Ishiro Honda directs an extraordinary cult, where the great lizard soon becomes an allegory of the atomic bomb and of a threat connected to the great trauma of the Second World War. The new film is his thirty-eighth appearance on the big screen, between Japanese and American titles, in which Godzilla has often changed his role from a destructive figure to an icon capable of protecting Japan and in some cases even the entire planet, as happens in this new feature film.
