Gödl: “Kickl would have needed an asylum stop during his own term of office”

The Kickl-FPÖ continues to ignore the reality of asylum

Vienna (OTS) “Kickl would have needed an asylum freeze during his own tenure. Because the fact is: In May 2019, during Herbert Kickl’s term of office, there were significantly more people with 25,000 people in basic services than under Interior Minister Karner, who in May 2023 with 21,000 people in basic services is clearly more successful than ex-Interior Minister Kickl. In contrast to Kickl, Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner have successfully put the brakes on asylum and have now made real progress at European level,” said Ernst Gödl, spokesman for integration and migration of the People’s Party.

“Despite all the facts, the FPÖ is once once more trying to throw dust in people’s eyes and attests to its own competencies that it obviously doesn’t have. It has been proven that Herbert Kickl’s tenure as Minister of the Interior was a single concert of failure, both in security and in questions of asylum policy. All the figures prove this in black and white. Kickl’s new combat term ‘Fortress Austria’ is also nothing more than a headline freed from any factual politics. And the fact is: Despite all the bold headlines, the FPÖ has no real political plan on how to get the asylum pressure under control,” Gödl continued, who finally emphasized: “In contrast to the kick-FPÖ, Interior Minister Karner and Chancellor Nehammer have a plan in Austria . Because the federal government’s strategy has successfully reduced the number of asylum seekers month following month this year. Now, in the coming weeks and months, it will be a question of tightening the asylum brakes even more at European level.”
