The asylum brake is working – while all of Europe is recording increasing asylum numbers, Austria is defying the trend

Vienna (OTS) “We are experiencing a decline of almost 50 percent in asylum applications. Compared to the previous year, Interior Minister Karner was able to almost halve the number of asylum applications submitted in Austria. This positive trend has been going on since the beginning of the year,” said the People’s Party’s migration spokesman, Ernst Gödl, who further emphasizes: “If you compare the first ten months of 2023 with those of last year, you see a decline of 42 percent. And the trend of decline continued significantly in November.”

“This cannot be taken for granted, as the EU as a whole recorded an increase of 25.6 percent by September. Our Interior Minister Gerhard Karner succeeded in this through an effective package of measures. This ranges from faster procedures to a consistent fight once morest the smuggling mafia and increased border protection to international agreements,” says Gödl and concludes: “It shows once once more: Gerhard Karner is exactly the right man for this office. If you compare the numbers, you can see crystal clear that Kickl had failed as Interior Minister – these facts cannot be ignored.”
