Liverpool’s new English striker hit Uruguayan international Darwin Nunes hard when he led his team to a landslide victory over German Leipzig 5-0, scoring four times in one game in a friendly match, Thursday.
Nunes joined Liverpool from Benfica last month, for a deal that might reach 100 million euros, a record for the club, exceeding the number that Liverpool paid to Southampton (85 million euros in 2018) to include Dutch central defender Virgil van Dijk.
Nunes, who scored 34 goals for Benfica, was the subject of some criticism from Liverpool supporters following failing to score in his first two matches during Liverpool’s warm-up tour of Asia once morest Manchester United and Crystal Palace, but he responded to them in the best possible way.
Liverpool advanced through Egyptian star Mohamed Salah in the first half following eight minutes.
Then Nunes participated at the beginning of the second half, and when the referee awarded a penalty kick to Liverpool, Salah ceded it to his newcomer colleague to score his first goal (48). Then the Uruguayan added three more goals in the 51st, 68th and 90th minutes.
Liverpool opens its Premier League campaign on the sixth of August once morest its host Fulham, who is returning to the ranks of the elite clubs.
