Game News God of War Ragnarok: The developers return to the history of the game and the role of father of Kratos
The wait is long, but it will soon be over! Yes, as you probably already know, the release of God of War: Ragnarok is fast approaching… It is for this reason that Santa Monica today unveils a long making-of which looks back on the relationship father-son who forged the character of this new saga.
An even more touching story
Kratos has come a long way since the very first God of War first released on PlayStation 2 in 2005: he went from demigod rejected by his own father to father himself in the latest installment. It is indeed following having set fire and blood to Ancient Greece in the first three episodes that the anti-hero of the Santa Monica franchise decided to withdraw to the Nordic territories to forget his past and found a small family. This is where Atreus comes in, a child gifted with his bow who now accompanies our muscle anti-hero. In God of War of 2018, we might see this duo gain in complicity over the hours, despite a Kratos who is unable to fully assume his role as a father, for lack of example. All this is well summarized in the making-of of God of War: Ragnarok available below in video.
In 2018’s God of War story, Kratos seems to have turned over a new leaf in the Norse lands. He leads a quiet life, hidden in the woods with his wife, Faye, and their son Atreus. And the story begins with them (Kratos and Atreus) mourning his death. We learn that she made one last request before passing away: she wants them to spread her ashes from the highest peak of all the Nine Kingdoms. (…) After many adventures, Kratos and Atreus finally grant Faye’s wishes. And on this journey, they learn more regarding each other, and finally find common ground between them. They become a unit as Faye hoped. Richard Gaubert, Lead Writer
Today, with God of War : Ragnarokthis dimension that was the strength of the 2018 episode will once once more be highlighted. This episode will also be an opportunity to meet Thor, a character described by the game’s Lead Writer as particularly unstable.
A close exit, despite a development that faced the pandemic
After returning to the story of this new episode which will allow us to meet Thor and face the threats of Freya, Santa Monica returned to the difficult development of God of War: Ragnarok, since the title began filming a week before the arrival of COVID-19. We then learn that the number of actresses and actors has been reduced so that there are not too many people during the motion capture sessions.
Despite everything, God of War: Ragnarok is ready to be released. Indeed, the game – already Gold – will land on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 from November 9th. In other words, the exit is near.
