God of War Ragnarok: Sony teases mechanics as exciting as Kratos’ Leviathan ax!

Game news God of War Ragnarok: Sony teases mechanics as exciting as Kratos’ Leviathan ax!

Announced in September 2019 during the PlayStation Showcase which presented the PS5, God of War: Ragnarok is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Developed by Sony Santa Monica, the title seems to have exciting new mechanics.

In the end, we know very little regarding this God of War : Ragnarok, whose release in 2022 has been reaffirmed by Sony. The trailer confirmed the presence of Tyr et de Thorbut we already know that the god armed with a hammer will be represented in a rather unusual way.

New mechanics as striking as the ax of Kratos?

A way to say that we must forget the representation of Thor present in the films ? Yes, as evidenced by the artwork presented by Santa Monica. However, certain traits of the Norse god will be present: “(Thor will be) a tall, broad and hedonistic man, a little childish (…) out of step with the image of Thor that people currently have”. Only apart from the story that will take over from the 2018 game by taking us discovering new places and meeting new deitiesGod of War Ragnarok will have to bring a number of novelties and surprises to not be a “simple sequel”.

The developers have not yet detailed all these new features, but the beginning of teasing seems to be beginning. On April 1, a gamer going by the alias Trophy Dad shared the moment in God of War when players learn to recall the Leviathan ax. In his tweet, he highlights the feeling felt during this discovery, and thinks that the developers have gone to great lengths to give this feeling of divine power. A tweet picked up the next day by Beau Anthony Jimenez, Sound Designer at PlayStation:

So excited to see players reacting the same way to what we are cooking up on God of War: Ragnarök. It must be said that the work was a tremendous one.

Many theories while waiting to know more

It was enough for many fan theories to appear on the Web. Some imagine that Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, will get similar treatment to that of the axe, others believe that the studio will precisely take the opposite of this mechanic. We will still have to wait a few weeks / months before knowing more, so be patient.

Unfortunately, these new mechanics were created without George Mawle, lead designer of the Leviathan axe, who passed away on September 2, 2021. A death that occurred 7 months following his departure from the studio, which affected many people within the industry. An industry veteran, George Mawle had worked on Prototype 2, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Crash of the Titans, Robotech : The Macross Saga or Hot Wheels : Stunt Track Driver.
