Corey Barlog, best known for 2018’s God of War, is facing a fairly pressing issue in the gaming community. The developer during the flight discovered that many games require a mandatory Internet connection before launching. Because of this, he was unable to launch Dragon Age, following which he issued a sharp criticism towards the developers.
Corey Barlog ran into a problem on Steam Deck. At first, he tried to launch FIFA 23, bought on Steam, but the football simulator refused to start, citing a mandatory connection to the network and anti-cheat. This fact perplexed the developer and he decided to try to launch the cult Dragon Age, which also refused to boot. To run the RPG, it was necessary to install an additional launcher and connect to the network. Barlog at that time was flying in an airplane and physically might not connect to the Internet.
The game designer of the God of War series called on developers and game publishers to drop the requirement to connect to the Internet to run single-player games. In the comments, the players slightly tweaked Barlog’s statements. As users note, the main problem is that the market is overflowing with third-party launchers, where some even lack the offline operation of the application.
