Goalless start: Wisła Kraków – Polonia Warsaw 0:0

Goalless start: Wisła Kraków – Polonia Warsaw 0:0

Wisła Kraków faced Polonia Warsaw in the 2nd round of Betclic 1st League. The match ended in a goalless draw despite numerous opportunities on both sides.

The visitors started the match with greater momentum, maintaining the weight of the game on Wisła players’ half for the first few minutes. After a while, however, the hosts managed to regain the right rhythm and return to their offensive play forward. The Polonia team, on the other hand, switched to deeper defense, focusing on quick counterattacks.

The match played in pouring weather initially did not abound in great excitement. In the 23rd minute, Sukiennicki had a great opportunity to shoot at goal, but he shot quite high over the crossbar. The dominant side on the pitch was still undoubtedly Wisła, unfortunately not bringing any benefits in the form of a change on the scoreboard.

Despite this, in the 36th minute, the Warsaw team came closest to scoring a goal. Durmus received a good perpendicular pass during a two-player play. However, the Turkish winger overshot significantly, falling on the muddy pitch. On the White Star’s side, Rodado and Sapała tried to shoot from a distance, unfortunately in the end, they were quite inaccurate. The half, somewhat disappointing for both sides, ended soon and we were already waiting with hope for the second 45 minutes.

The fight to break through

Coach Kazimierz Moskal brought Łukasz Zwoliński onto the pitch after the break, wanting to strengthen his team’s attacking power. However, similarly to the start of the match, after the change of sides, the players in black were better at attacking. In the 50th minute, after a skillful exchange of passes, Terpiłowski came face to face with Chichkan, shooting straight into the Belarusian’s gloves. Giving the initiative away to the visitors in this aspect had to pay off in the end. In the 57th minute, Wiktor Biedrzycki, who was playing well, had to be the last defender to commit a foul, for which he received a red card. Our opponents also won a dangerous free kick, but the shot landed on the crossbar.

Despite playing with a smaller team, the competition at R22 remained relatively open. Wisła Krakowska constructed interestingly promising actions, which were often eliminated with great dedication by our rivals. Offensive attacks to the opposite goal in the face of playing with 10 players were naturally burdened with a certain risk. The visiting coach, wanting to use the opening spaces, made as many as 3 changes, sending players from the reserve bench into the fight.

In the 83rd minute, the White Star found itself in the role of the counterattack side. Zwoliński, who was brought on for the second half, could have scored his first goal in the blue-white-red colours. However, his shot from close range was too light and did not cause any difficulties for Polonia goalkeeper Mateusz Kuchta.

The referee for today’s game, Tomasz Wajda, added at least 5 minutes to the regular time. On the right wing, Jaroch, who was joining the attack, was fouled, and the set piece was to be taken by Gogół, who had appeared on the pitch earlier. No other than Angel Rodado jumped for the powerful free kick cross. The Spaniard could have dotted the i’s over the i’s, but his header was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper of the Black Shirts. This was the last touch of today’s match. Neither side found a way to break through in front of the opponent’s goal, which is why the match ends with a share of points.
