Edi Grubauer, the Langnauer champion hero of 1976, died on Tuesday night at the age of 67. That writes the «Berner Zeitung».
Grubauer guarded the Langnau gate between 1973 and 1980, following which he went to the SCB – and thus to the cantonal rivals. He was relegated there in 1982, but celebrated his return to the top division four years later at the green table.
He made 22 appearances for the Swiss national team and twice took part in a B World Cup. Grubauer shaped Bernese ice hockey, also because he was one of the few players who played for both Bernese clubs at the time, he enjoyed cult status.
It is not yet known why Grubauer died. There is mourning in Langnau. “The whole Tigers family expresses its sincere condolences to the relatives and friends and wishes everyone a lot of strength in the coming time,” writes the club. (mum)
