Goal in extra time saves Sevilla and brings Mallorca closer to relegation

SEVILLE, Spain —

SEVILLE, Spain (AP) — Mallorca remains dangerously close to the relegation zone of the Spanish League following losing 2-1 to Sevilla on Monday.

Three teams will be relegated and Mallorca is tied with Celta de Vigo with six points ahead of Cádiz with four games remaining.

Cádiz receives Mallorca next Sunday.

“We are the same distance from relegation as before the game started,” said Mallorca defender Sergi Darder. “This Sunday we have a real final once morest Cádiz. “These are the games that decide seasons.”

Sevilla rose to 12th position and practically guaranteed their first division status for another year.

Mallorca had their best first 45 minutes with Sergio Ramos parrying a good shot from Nemanja Radonjic in the 28th minute.

But their inability to reflect the pressure exerted on the scoreboard reversed in the second half.

Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri opened the scoring with a powerful header on the hour mark and 15 minutes later Isaac Romero was lucky with a deflected shot that went over the stranded goalkeeper.

Substitute Abdón Prats scored in injury time, but it was not enough for the visitors.
