GLP City of Zurich informs members about the Sanija Ameti case

A thoughtless post on Instagram brought down Zurich GLP councilor Sanija Ameti. In it she showed how she shot a picture of Jesus and Mary with a pistol. The GLP Switzerland called for the 32-year-old to be excluded from the party.

The GLP Canton of Zurich is currently in an internal process to deal with the matter. On Saturday, the GLP City of Zurich informed its members about the current status. “Now that the intensive media reporting and the social media wave surrounding Sanija Ameti’s misstep has finally calmed down somewhat, we would like to turn to you to make a classification », the party began the message.

She also makes it clear: “We stand by Sanija and will tackle the consequences together.”

Waiting for willingness to engage in dialogue

«We hope that Sanija will feel better soon. As soon as she is ready for dialogue, we will listen to her to discuss further steps with her,” the party writes. They take the concerns of their national party representative and their GLP community, from which they have received many letters, seriously. “We ask you all for a little patience.”

After Ameti’s Instagram meltdown, there was a shitstorm against her. Users on social media outdid each other with hate posts.

Nationally, cantonally and municipally, the GLP immediately distanced itself clearly from the content of the social media campaign, the Green Liberals of the City of Zurich said. “We remain united in our concern that Sanija and her family are safe and that the hate speech and comments against her are condemned.”

Process will take some time

The party very much regrets that it has come to this and wishes Ameti and her family a lot of strength and a speedy recovery, said the GLP City of Zurich.

The party points out that despite its sympathy, many other factors need to be taken into account in the process. The process will therefore take some time.
