Whether and how the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation Helena Langšádlová (TOP 09) handled her work is difficult for the wider public to judge. It is a complicated, professional discipline.
What is surprising regarding the resignation of the science minister on Thursday is the statement of her party leader. According to TOP 09 chairwoman Markéta Pekarová Adamová, the minister wrongly focused more on performance than on bragging regarding her results.
“The minister herself admits that she devoted more effort to the work itself than to explaining it to the outside,” said the chairperson of the ruling party and also the Chamber of Deputies.
That’s what I call a reproach! An expert working in his resort does not have enough time to flood social networks with his wisdom. Or, in the worst case, on the filming of sketches.
As if the internet wasn’t so full of simple-minded banalities anymore.
According to representatives of the scientific community who were asked by the ČTK agency, Langšádlová devoted herself well to her agenda. They appreciate her contribution. And they fear that her resignation will delay the issues under discussion.
Which does not bother Pekarová Adamová. The minister did not devote herself to self-promotion, so let her pack her research fiddles with a laptop.
With such logic, however, the most outstanding figure in the modern online history of Czech politics would have to be Alena Schillerová from the ANO movement.
On Wednesday, her marketing team added another hard-to-bear video to TikTok. The camera revolves around the vice president of the strongest opposition party. She grabs her head and wrings her hands to the background of dramatic music. All this, according to the caption, because of “what the government is coming up with once more”.
However, Markéta Pekarová Adamová is not the only one who prefers form over content. The targeted infantilization of politics is a clear trend not only in the Czech Republic. Ideals are receding, influencing is valued.
However, with such a cabinet, we can expect a cabinet whose chairman will be the imitator of anyone and anything, Zdeněk Izer, the minister of agriculture, the well-known cognac Václav Vydra, the minister of culture ( once more) Vítězslav Jandák, and the minister for regional development, the lover of Wallachia Pavel “Čmaňa” Zedníček. Come on, won’t it be fun?
