According to Canalysthe global wearables market recorded 41 million units sold in the first quarter of 2023, showing a drop of 1% compared to the previous year.
Even in decline, Apple maintained its dominant position in the market, with a share of 20% — despite the fall of 11% in shipments in the first quarter of 2023.
A Xiaomi ranked second, focusing on mid-to-high-end entry-level watches to strengthen its image; already to Huawei it’s at Samsung ranked third and fourth, respectively.
Surprisingly, the Indian Fire Bolttwhich entered the top five global companies for the first time, came out with an impressive 198% growth in its sales volume!
In the global scenario, the highlight was India, which had an exceptional growth of 122%, slightly offsetting the 14% drop in the other countries.
Outside of the Indian market, most regions have faced double-digit drops in shipments — according to Canalys, due to limited demand in a challenging economic environment.
Shipments to the United States and other markets dropped 13% e 21%, respectively, influenced mainly by seasonal factors. However, the Chinese market showed greater resilience, with a fall of only 7% in shipments.
By the end of 2023, Canalys anticipates a resumption of market growth, with an emphasis on differentiating brands, products and ecosystems, targeting segments such as sports enthusiasts and health conscious consumers.
