The market research organization IDC recently released the global tablet market report for the fourth quarter of 2022, disclosing the shipments, market share and year-on-year growth data of each major tablet brand in the last quarter. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2021, tablet shipments in the same period last year fell slightly by 100,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of regarding 0.3%. However, three of the five major brands experienced declines, with the largest decline of nearly 50%.
Compared with the fourth quarter of 2021, the largest decline in shipments in the same period last year was Lenovo, which fell by 49.9%, followed by Amazon, which fell by 31.1%, and Huawei, which also fell by 8.6%. Two major brands recorded growth in this market environment. Samsung shipped regarding 7.7 million units in the fourth quarter of last year, an increase of 7.1% from the same period in 2021; Apple shipped 22.5 million units, recording a 28.8% increase. In terms of market share, Apple won the championship with 49.2% in the fourth quarter of last year, followed by Samsung with 16.8% and Amazon with 5.4%. Huawei and Lenovo also tied for fourth with 5.1% market share. Analysts pointed out that Apple’s success was related to their release of the 10th generation iPad and the upgraded 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro in October last year.
