From the 29th of last month to the 4th of this month, the Center for Health Protection recorded an imported case of dengue fever. The patient had traveled to Sri Lanka during the incubation period.

The latest surveillance data shows that the number of dengue fever cases in some Asian regions (including Bangladesh, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand) is higher compared with the same period last year. The Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health reminds members of the public to be more vigilant when traveling and take effective measures to prevent and control mosquito infestations.
The World Health Organization stated that dengue fever cases have surged globally this year, with more than 5 million cases reported so far, close to the record 5.2 million cases in 2019. More than 5,000 dengue fever-related deaths have been recorded so far this year.
The WHO report said that because many cases are asymptomatic and reporting of dengue fever is not mandatory in many countries, it is believed that the number of cases may be underestimated. Of the more than 5 million cases, the Americas account for regarding 4.1 million.
The WHO stated that changes in the distribution of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, as well as factors such as increased temperatures, increased rainfall, and increased humidity caused by El Niño and climate change, are all related to the spread of dengue fever.
