Deputy for Politics, Law and Security at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Bogat Widyatmoko, said that efforts to achieve the target Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or sustainable development globally is experiencing a slowdown.

The target that should have been achieved in 2030 had to be postponed in almost all countries due to various global challenges.

The challenges experienced in the last decade are political tensions that have triggered a number of conflicts between countries, a multiracial deficit that has made collaboration or cooperation between countries less intensive, and also the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“At least these three have caused the achievement of the 2030 SDGs targets almost all over the world to be delayed or not as expected,” he said at a press conference for the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) 2024, in Bali, Sunday (1/9).

Bogat said that based on these conditions, Indonesia has designed the 2020-2045 RPJMN, the essence of which is that in the next 20 years Indonesia wants to be a leader in the region. Bappenas also initiated the HLF MSP international forum in order to strengthen collaboration.

“This is one of the commitments to invite all stakeholders, both in countries in the global south and throughout the world in triangular countries, to jointly make innovative, collaborative efforts to solve the problems that I mentioned earlier. Among them is how we accelerate the SDGs that have been left behind,” he explained.

The forum held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) was declared ready with three critical factors or indicators. First, the venue is fully ready to be used for September 2-3. Then, supporting infrastructure such as internet network facilities and health facilities as well as satellite media rooms are also ready.

Regarding supporting infrastructure, an exhibition is also prepared which will be filled by related stakeholders, so that the media can experience it directly and believe that this forum will be beneficial for the world, including Indonesia.

“HLF has a session High Level Plenary. This session will be opened by the Minister/Head of Bappenas and keynote speaker “Mr. Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister of Timor Leste and General Prabowo Subianto as the elected president,” he added.

Those who will attend will be several ministers/heads of agencies and representatives of friendly countries, global south including African countries, representatives of international organizations, and so on.

He hopes that the forum can be held according to plan, smoothly and successfully. In addition, the results of this forum will be useful for cooperation global south by inviting all stakeholder both in global south countries and developed countries.

“And of course this is the basic capital or modality for Indonesia to embody our vision and mission to become a leader in the region and this solidarity is very useful for development,” he said.

The HLF MSP was held from 1-3 September in Bali in conjunction with the 2nd Indonesia-Afcika Forum (IAF). This forum aims to strengthen multi-party cooperation and collaboration. (J-3)
