In Guyana, the Somasco group is launching a recall campaign for Citroën and DS brand vehicles. In a press release “the Citroën and DS brands invite owners or dealers of C3/C4/DS3/DS4/DS5 models produced between 2009 and 2017 and equipped with Takata airbags that have not yet been replaced to immediately stop driving their vehicle”. They can “contact their local importer to have the required repairs carried out free of charge”.

A global recall campaign that began in 2014 due to a defect found in the airbags of the Japanese equipment manufacturer Takata, likely to explode by projecting fragments of metal, uncovered by the American authorities. The Japanese group has since gone bankrupt. But not all customers made the necessary repairs. The risk of explosion is real.

Affected vehicles are equipped with Takata airbag inflators whose chemical properties may deteriorate over time, particularly when exposed to hot and humid climates. Under these conditions, the inflators may explode when the airbags deploy and fly metal fragments which might cause serious injury or death. This problem has been the cause of several fatal accidents, which is why we invite owners and/or dealers of C3/C4/DS3/DS4/DS5 models produced between 2009 and 2017 to take the required measures as soon as possible. time limit. The safety of our customers is our top priority.

A new recall campaign, certainly prompted by the opening in Guadeloupe, 3 days ago, of judicial information for “involuntary homicides and injuries”, following accidents caused by defective Takata airbags fitted to Citroën C3s . Five cases, including three concerning fatal accidents, have thus come under this “extensive” procedure. In the United States, since 2014, the car manufacturer Stellantis has recalled 276,000 vehicles.
